Every now and then a band comes along that grabs you by the
ears and just makes you listen. One that doesn't sound like just anyone. A band
that changes people's perceptions. A band that quite possibly, changes music.
In an age where sampling and digital mixes run rampant, it's
refreshing to hear something a little different and less sterile - something
that has heart. A return to fun. A return to roots.
This band has a unique presence; that something special that
sets them far apart from the everyday songs that bombard us at every turn. It
is this simplicity and rawness that takes everyone to that happy place which is
linked to fun, good times, and above all an appreciation of great music.
2014
Generation Who is the second studio album released by
Canadian rock band The Judes, released on the 11th of November, 2014 in North
America, and the UK as well digitally worldwide, and on the 20th of November,
2014 in Japan.
The album marks somewhat of a departure from the bands
previous efforts, moving instead towards a darker theme and grittier songs.
Although technically the bands second commercially released album,Generation
Who was originally intended to be released before “All That Is The Judes”.
However, due to the band working with producer David Grahame at the time, the
recordings for the “Generation Who” album were abandoned and left in limbo
until the band completed work on what was to become "All That Is The
Judes".
The Higgs Boson.
A title not frequently heard of or talked about amongst the masses. The search
for "Dark Matter" and "Dark Energy" that make up more than
96% of our universe. It is the undiscovered particle thought to give matter
mass. The God Particle! It is also the name I've chosen for this musical
endeavor.Thank you for taking the time to visit and I hope you enjoy your stay!
About the Guitar....I borrow these lyrics from the song Discovery,by Rush.
"Behind my beloved waterfall, in the little room that was hidden beneath
the cave, I found it. I brushed away the dust of the years, and picked it up,
holding it reverently in my hands. I had no idea what it might be, but it was
beautiful" ... ... "I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and
to turn the keys to make them sound differently. As I struck the wires with my
other hand, I produced my first harmonious sounds, and soon my own music! How different
it could be from the music of the Temples! I can't wait to tell the priests
about it! ..." What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it gives
forth a sound. It's got wires that vibrate and give music. What can this thing
be that I found? See how it sings like a sad heart. And joyously screams out
its pain. Sounds that build high like a mountain. Or notes that fall gently
like rain. I can't wait to share this new wonder. The people will all see its
light. Let them all make their own music. The Priests praise my name on this
night. Welcome to The Higgs Boson Project!
Mickey Carroll is a guitar player, singer and bandleader who
is dedicated to giving back to the world through community activism and musical
commentary.
Mickey's career started in 1956 playing clubs in Atlantic City and
Philadelphia. In 1957 he and Bill Harner started the doo-wop musical duo
"Billy and Mickey". Billy and Mickey was one of the first white acts
to break the color barrier playing a string of black and white concerts in the
1950’s.
In the 1960's Mickey was managed by the original owner of Harlem's Cotton Club,
Herman Stark and son Steve, performing in the upscale hotels of Miami Beach.
In 1974 Mickey was signed by Soul Train legend Don Cornelius and Dick Griffy to
Solar Records. By 1975 Mickey was recording the first album recorded at sea.
Don and Dick moved the famous Record Plant Studio in Sausalito, California
aboard a 110 foot ship! Helmed by the legendary Bob Johnston (Bob Dylan, Elvis,
Johnny Cash) the album was recorded with an all-star roster of musicians
including hit songwriter Jimmy Webb, Leon Pendarvis - NBC's Saturday Night Live
music director, Chuck Leavell of the Rolling Stones and Willie Hall of the
Blues Brothers band.
In 1978, Mickey’s album "Love Life" was nominated for a Grammy award.
Engineered by Grammy-winner Eric Schilling, "Love Life" still sounds
fresh today and is currently released around the world by Vision Records and
Banderia Music Company.
By 1980 Mickey had decided to take a new direction with his music. Partnering
with Rod Glaubman (founder of PACE, the largest non-profit performing arts
organization in America), Mickey and Rod created concert events for those with
disabilities, veterans and senior citizens. In 1983 Mickey was featured on
NBC’s Today Show (see link at left).
In 1984 Mickey was awarded a gold record for his song, "Love Is Where You
Find It". It went to number one on Billboard's R&B chart, recorded by
"The Whispers" on Solar Records.
From 2000 to 2010 Mickey ran Mother J Productions, a 501c non-profit he founded
to fund arts education through concert performances and community events.
Mother J contributed over $100,000 to arts education and world community
disaster relief funds.
2011 finds Mickey still hard at work writing new songs, recording, and
releasing socially conscious music. Produced by Howard Albert (Bee Gees,
Eagles, Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers) and released around the world by Vision
records (US and Europe) and Banderia music (Asia)
Mickey has long relationships with the best musicians, producers and engineers
in the business. Let Mickey put together a show for your next fundraiser,
convention, or event.

Broken Anchor “creates music that blends 'indie cool' with
huge epic choruses tasty lyrics and hooks for days”, according to Daily
Unsigned.
Showcasing the melodic sounds of singer/songwriter Austin Hartley-Leonard,
percussionist/drummer Mike Duffy and producer Brad Gordon, Broken Anchor’s
three part EP series, Broken Anchor Vol. 1-3, debuted to outstanding reviews.
UK’s Folk Radio raved “(Hartley-Leonard’s) vocals are a driving force
throughout; they ooze charisma and tell a story of love and life”. The
collection included hit tracks such as “Leave the Light On”, “Dear Diary”, “Never
Leave Me Alone”, and the dark, yet dreamy remake of Harvey Danger’s “Flagpole
Sitta”.
In anticipation of their as yet untitled debut LP, set to be released early
summer, Broken Anchor will be holding a residency at LA’s Piano Bar every
Thursday in January. Following will be a full tour of the Northeast, traveling
from New York to Vermont to Philadelphia this February.
Johnny Duhan
started his career as a fifteen year old front man with Granny’s Intentions,
the most popular beat group in Ireland in the 60s. After rousing Dublin with
their soul touch, they moved to London, were signed to the prestigious Deram
label, enjoyed considerable success and disbanded before Johnny was twenty one.
Johnny started writing folk songs, poetry and prose at this stage. In a career
spanning 40 years, his greatest achievement is a quartet of epic albums - Just
Another Town, To The Light, The Voyage and Flame - which correspond to the four
chapters of his lyrical autobiography, TO THE LIGHT. Johnny’s songs are sung
worldwide in a variety of languages, thanks to the focus put on them by Christy
Moore, The Dubliners, Mary Black and hosts of other Irish and international
singers. His song The Voyage has become a modern classic. Christy Moore has
termed Johnny “One of our greatest songwriters.” And the late Ronnie Drew
described him as “one of my favourite songwriters.” A new album, The Burning
Word, has just been released.
Johnny’s journey
is set out in a series of albums that portray his life - his Limerick boyhood
in JUST ANOTHER TOWN; his tilt for fame and the girl in TO THE LIGHT; his reflections
on family life in THE VOYAGE; and his spiritual quest in FLAME. “After a number of hard knocks in 2014, I
struggled into 2015 with not just a chip on my shoulder but a full beam on my
back. One winter morning while carrying this load up an incline in Barna Woods
(a place I often stroll through), I found my usual path blocked by a fallen
tree, knocked by a storm the night before. Rooted to the spot by the surprise
obstacle, I scratched my head glancing around at other smaller trees that had
survived the tempest. While making my way around the exposed root structure at
the end of the wide trunk I noticed that the bed the tree had grown in was a
wide ledge of solid rock, with little or no root room. Examining the roots
themselves I saw that the long fibrous tentacles had had to stretch themselves
right to the edge of the rock ledge and over it to gain earth support and
nourishment to grow. By the great size of the tree, it had been no mean
achievement to have flourished and grown for so long. Still thinking of this
when I got home from my walk, I jotted an account of my encounter with the tree
in my Song Journal, and a few days later a song grew organically from my notes,
“The Fallen Tree”. Without strain or effort, other songs started stemming from
the same natural source, all related one way or the other to the felled tree,
which I began to associate with the proverbial Tree of Life and with my own
life history and journey. It took five months to complete the full collection
Creation, which I intend releasing as an album in early 2016, to mark the 50th
year of my calling in song. A video of
The Fallen Tree made by Tony Walsh & Tocar Media will appear on Youtube
prior to the album’s release. The title
song “Creation” will be released as a single on iTunes and other download
outlets in September 2015. For further details of the overall work Creation

Barna, Galway.
Allison VonBuelow
has been playing around the Los Angeles area for years, by herself as an
acoustic artist, and with various bands that are Rock, or Progressive rock in
orientation. My influences are mostly singer songwriters like David Crosby and
Joni Mitchell. My husband Gregg Olson's Influences are from Hard Rock and
Progressive Rock like Tool or Porcupine Tree, where songs are free to be
expanded to express larger concepts and unique arrangements. We combined are
influences to form the band Scarlet Hollow, with Bassist Jeff Mack, and
percussionist extrordinaire Diego Grom Meraviglia.
The Scarlet Hollow
Sound is...
Powerful, light, dark, ethereal, heavy, melodic music with an emphasis on the
rock in
progressive rock. They perform and produce high quality music with thought provoking
lyrics and sonic sophistication. Scarlet Hollows music is made with a high
level of musicianship, yet nothing seems sterile and polished so much that all
the raw energy and emotion is squeezed out of it. They blend diverse influences
to make music that is not geared towards pop music trends and fashion
statements. Scarlet Hollow's music combines hauntingly beautiful and textural
sections of music, with very heavy, dark, and powerful sections, often shifting
undetectably between odd time signatures yet never losing site of the songs
intent and message.
Traveling effortlessly between progressive rock and metal,
Scarlet Hollow will take you on an emotional ride with dark heavy guitar riffs,
soaring leads, beautiful atmospheres, adventurous arrangements, haunting vocal
melodies, and a powerhouse rhythm section.
Band Members
Allison Vonbuelow: Vocals, Acoustic Guitars, synths.
Gregg Olson: Electric Guitars.
Jeff Mack: Bass Guitars.
Diego Grom Meraviglia: Drums and Percussion
On his upcoming June 8th release 'Shouts and Whispers',
singer-songwriter Ari Hest creates a non-typical collection of tracks that
ultimately form a cohesive narrative. With songs of sadness and resignation giving
way to lucidity and catharsis, Hest's introspection and intelligence are on
display, creating moments of magic within his poetic, spare lyrics and backing
them up with his ear for haunting melodies.
Hest conceived half the album as an acoustic set, while the
other half took shape via keyboards, as he explains below. 'Shouts and
Whispers' begins with the swirling, hypnotic 'Harvest', soon followed by a
centerpiece track, the stunning, understated 'Into the Empty White'. 'How We'll
Always Be' is perhaps a declaration of giving up the fight, and the melancholy
'No One Can Stay' has an elegant darkness. There's a glimmer of hope within
'Bona Fide', and finally a cathartic yowl as 'After The Thunder' builds to its
crescendo.
Hest comments on the process of making the album:
"At first I wanted to write and record some songs where
I put the guitar down and focused on keyboards…I've always been into music from
Tears For Fears, Peter Gabriel, and Bruce Hornsby, and was excited to
experiment in that direction. So I asked my buddy Carl Barc if I could invade
his studio for a while to experiment with some ideas on his Juno and CP70
keyboards. I loved creating in a way I hadn't - using those instruments as the
backbone of tracks and leaving guitar largely out of it."
"In the middle of working on those songs I began
playing solo shows supporting Judy Collins around the U.S. and Europe. Her show
and her audience beg for a more acoustically minded set, so I'd go on stage
with just a guitar and occasionally play songs that were fresh out of the oven.
I enjoyed being able to take a break mentally from what I was doing with Carl.
I was able to focus on how I could arrange these other new songs
sparsely."
Eventually Hest found the time to record a few of them with
the help of producer Matt Pendergast at Q Division Studios in Boston, MA. Then
he listened to both projects. "After hearing the two finished batches of
songs I saw two distinct themes, not only in a musical sense but also
lyrically. The vibe of the keyboard driven tracks is intense. I wrote a lot
about the uncertainty of what I do for a living. On the contrary, the acoustic
songs come from a place of lucidity. I started thinking it'd be cool to combine
the two somehow."
The result is an album that isn't an album in the
traditional sense, but it manages to flow like a complete thought.
"I've always been the introspective type. I guess as a
singer-songwriter you're gonna have some of that anyway in your makeup. My
previous records were inward most of the time, but 'Shouts and Whispers' has
another distinct angle, one of understanding the world I live in and embracing
how I fit into it a bit easier than I used to."
Hest has released seven albums, three EPs, and
"52" in 2008, an innovative project whereby he wrote, recorded and
released a new song every Monday for a full year. In addition, Hest is half of
the folk pop duo The Open Sea, along with longtime friend Rosi Golan.
His music has been featured on numerous television shows
including Private Practice, Army Wives, and One Tree Hill. Recently, Ari's song
"The Landlord" appeared in an episode of NPR's "All Things
Considered". He's also scored a film called 'Dreamriders,' which won
several independent film awards. And throughout his career, he has toured
worldwide to support his records, most recently in Germany as well as several
European countries, and built the kind of loyal fan base any musician would
envy.
While Shouts and Whispers is an excellent indication of what
Hest is capable of, his live show may leave even more of an impression.
Watching him play, one can't help but be thrust into his world, hanging on
every word like a child listening to a ghost story.
